At East Doncaster Veterinary Hospital we are pet owners just like you, and so our professional staff would only recommend products that are safe and they would trust to use in their own pets.

With the close bond that an owner has with their pet, it is important to keep them free from all parasites. The common parasites we see in Dogs and Cats in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, can cause ill-health in both pets and their owners.

Below is our guideline for both canine and feline parasite control:-

Puppies and Dogs

Intestinal Worms:

For puppies we recommend worming every two weeks until 12 weeks old, then monthly until 6 months old. For dogs over 6 months of age we recommend worming every three months.

Heartworm:

We recommend an Annual Heartworm Injection. Your puppy can be protected from 12 weeks of age, with an booster injection at 6 months of age, and then annually thereafter.

Fleas:

For all dogs over 8 weeks of age we recommend Bravecto Flea Chews.  Bravecto is given orally every 3 months. Alternatively, Revolution is available as a Monthly Spot-On Treatment.

Ticks:

Bravecto will protect your dog for 4 months against Paralysis Ticks. It can be used in conjunction with other preventions such as Sentinel and Revolution.

Kittens and Cats

Intestinal Worms:

For kittens we recommend worming every two weeks until 12weeks old, then monthly until 6 months of age. For Cats over 6 months we recommend worming every 3 months.

If you choose to use a Spot-On preventative like Revolution- then you apply this monthly and use a Tapeworm tablet every three months.

Fleas:

We advise using Bravecto in Cats- This is available as a Spot-On Treatment and is applied every three months. It can be used in conjunction with Intestinal Worming Programs.
