Get to know our Practice Manager, Chelsea – what she loves about working with animals and the advice she wishes every pet owner knew.
What inspired you to work in the veterinary industry?
I have always had a love of animals (as most of us do) and through every job I’ve been interested in, I always went back to looking at doing something with animals. The reception job at a vet came up at the right time and I have loved working with the animals, but also in a high functioning job that I get a lot out of and am always learning something new.
Do you have any pets of your own?
Yes, I have a feisty and cuddly, DLH, ginger and white cat at home called Kozmo. He came into my partner’s life when he was 16, and I fell in love with them both about 5 years ago! I also have 4 chickens (Pecky, Clucky, Pollo and Linda) but didn’t have enough room to bring them with me when I moved house. I still get to see them a bit, though.
What do you love most about working in this community?
There are always new things to learn both intellectually and emotionally. It’s a job that connects you to both animals and humans.
What’s one piece of advice you wish every pet owner knew?
Earlier is better than later. Prevention is always best for the animal but also for costs. This is very adamant with training and early things you can do for the behaviour of your pets, especially puppies and kittens.
Do you have a favourite animal? What is it and why?
Apart from Kozmo, I would love a working breed dog one day, kelpie, border collie, etc. I have a big interest in dog training and would love to live on more land one day so the lifestyle suits for the breed of dog. Dogs also bring a different type of happiness and activeness to a person’s lifestyle. I have never been a cat or a dog person though, I love horses, kangaroos, cows, really just all animals.
